Okezie N. Okezie, MD, FAAPMR


Dr. Okezie N. Okezie, a native of Huntsville, Alabama received his Bachelors in Science at Xavier University of Louisiana. Simultaneously, he conducted numerous biological research projects at institutions such as the Center for Neural Science, New York University and The University of Notre Dame. Following this, he decided to combine his affinity for the biological sciences with his passion and willingness to help others as he went on to graduate from The University of Alabama School of Medicine in Birmingham, Alabama in the year 2000. While attending medical school, Dr. Okezie was awarded a research fellowship position at the National Institutes of Health (NIH) in Bethesda, Maryland where he participated in conducting clinical studies at the National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke. It is here where his interest in Neuromusculoskeletal Medicine began, motivating him to pursue a post graduate residency in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation (PMR) at Baylor College of Medicine/University of Texas Health Science Center in Houston, TX. During his PMR residency he broadened his exposure by participating in numerous community activities including working at HISD football games as a sideline physician and providing volunteer medical coverage at the Houston City Marathon, March of Dimes as well as other civic endeavors.

Upon completing his residency in PMR, Dr. Okezie was awarded a subspecialty fellowship training position in Interventional Pain Management with the Department of Anesthesiology at the University of Texas Houston. He went on to become board certified in both Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation as well as Pain Medicine. Following this, was then elected to Fellow in the American Academy of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation in 2005.


Dr. Okezie has more than 10 years of experience as a licensed physician and more than 8 years as a board certified interventional pain specialist. This has included conducting an outpatient comprehensive pain management program, directing outpatient physical therapy at Beltway Wellness and Rehabilitation, Medical Director at APMS Surgery Center, providing numerous expert medical witness depositions across the U.S., treating personal injury cases throughout San Antonio and Houston and conducting certified independent medical evaluations for Texas injured workers. He has staff privileges at numerous facilities including APMS Surgery Center, Humble Surgical Hospital, and San Jacinto Methodist Surgery Center and is a staff member in the Department of Surgery as well as inpatient Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation at The San Jacinto Methodist Hospital. He has since continued to optimize patient's quality of life, relieve pain and increase awareness not only to the community at large but the medical community as well. This has been done through several efforts including hosting community seminars, serving in the Texas Medical Association House of Delegates, and collaborating with several leading pharmaceutical companies as a faculty speaker in an effort to educate fellow physicians on cutting edge treatments and pain therapies.

Dr. Okezie has been listed in "America's Top Physicians 2013 & America's Top Physicians 2014" and featured in "H Texas Magazine" 2013 Top Doctors and recognized with several awards including:
